History of Maple Winds:

Maple Winds Farm Groton, New Hampshire

Actually this land has quite a history. First settled when land grants were given out by two brothers. Each had a farm, currently I have a part of each. I would like to put the entire parcel back together, but that is another dream .

It must have taken years of back breaking work to clear this rocky land. It went from forest to pasture. In the old pictures from the late 1800's you can see for miles, from one mountain to the next. Today it is back to forest. In point of fact, this town today is 98% forest land.

The brothers tended sheep. At one time the Town of Groton was the 2 nd highest producer of sheep and wool in the North East. The brothers, or their decedents finally gave up. One moved to neighboring Plymouth, and continued with the sheep. Last year that farm house and barn was torn down. There is now a mini mall in its place. A sad fact of the 21 st century.

When I found this mountain in 1983, I knew I was home. And so began the modern version of an old way of life. Living with nature, respecting the land and in a small way contributing to feed and clothe America. Think about the fact that if all the farms are turned into mini malls, where do you expect to get your food and clothing from? China! We now realize all to well how safe that is! Just a thought. Peace
